 On Friday, I sent home emails to parents regarding missing work. If you did not get an email, your child is either caught up or was away and I need to follow up with them before I send notification home or you already know why.  Hi folks,  Just thought I'd let you know what we do each week, so you know where to focus your attention at home in the evenings and want to do school-y stuff. Mondays  Spiralundi. This is a quick 5 question math review quiz-like deal that checks on the retention of all concepts since the beginning of the year. We did our first one this week, and it looked a lot like last week's math quiz because, well, that's all we'd done so far.  Practice for the math quiz. Is exactly what it sounds like. I give them a practice quiz, we correct it together, and they keep it so they know a) what the quiz is going to look like, format-wise, and b) so they know where to focus their last-minute studying. Gym. Wear/bring appropriate attire. Skirts are not ideal on this day. Tuesdays Math quiz. Pro-tip, it's going to look a LOT like the practice quiz.  Howdy, folks, Here is the summary of what's coming up this week... Work that has already been assigned and is coming due: Social studies reflection questions about privilege are due tomorrow (Monday) and are available on Google Classroom (assigned last Tuesday) Art shape sheets (2 of circles, squares, or triangles) are also due tomorrow (assigned last Tuesday) French idea sort into broader categories, plus listing "what the haters gonna say" is due tomorrow. This started on Wednesday when I asked the kids to pick a topic that was going to incite a reaction (my sample topic was "Soccer is LAME!" You should have heard the reaction!) and then list 15 reasons why they are right. Thursday I asked them to put their ideas into like-topic groupings, and declare the "bigger" idea that those ideas belong to. Dear parents, I, too, have been trying to keep my children (a) on task, and (b) up to date on their school work while working from home. You'd think that would be easy (especially for a teacher who teaches the same grades as her children) given the flexibility of the virtual environment. PLOT TWIST! It's SO HARD!! I've completely failed at this!  So, what to do... tips from your teacher (read: realistic expectations from your teacher who is speaking from her mom-reality) Do your best. That's it. Let's be real. If nothing school-related gets done, but everyone is still alive and relatively sane, call it a win. In a perfect world, all of our children would be completely up to date and independently working on enrichment projects harmoniously with their siblings.
