Feb 8-10

 Howdy, folks,

Here is the summary of what's coming up this week...

Work that has already been assigned and is coming due:

  • Social studies reflection questions about privilege are due tomorrow (Monday) and are available on Google Classroom (assigned last Tuesday)
  • Art shape sheets (2 of circles, squares, or triangles) are also due tomorrow (assigned last Tuesday)
  • French idea sort into broader categories, plus listing "what the haters gonna say" is due tomorrow. This started on Wednesday when I asked the kids to pick a topic that was going to incite a reaction (my sample topic was "Soccer is LAME!" You should have heard the reaction!) and then list 15 reasons why they are right. Thursday I asked them to put their ideas into like-topic groupings, and declare the "bigger" idea that those ideas belong to. Also, what would someone who disagrees with them say?
  • Science has a project due on February 19th about the 3 laws of motion. There is information about this on Google classroom, but briefly they must create a poster, comic strip, OR picture book which explains Newton's 3 laws of motion as they apply to ONE example. For example going for a bike ride and hitting a rock. Thank goodness you weren't pedaling faster, because... (yup, all 3 laws are in there in ABUNDANCE)

This (short) week, we will have our typical "belle phrase" and reading comprehension - this week it's online, so you may want to check that your child still remembers his/her/their user name and password for infos-jeunes. We'll also have another oral comprehension, but this video is a funsie one. We're also going to finish watching 42 and keep working on conversion of metric units of measure (distances only). Tuesday and Wednesday's warm-ups (réchauffement) will be French worksheets, one on the pronoun "y", and the other on vocabulary. I have a game planned for social studies (hopefully it works out, this is my first time trying it) which will have a data entry and reflection bit to it afterwards. We're going to incorporate some binary code into our artwork this week, and take our controversial topics into the next steps of persuasive writing. Although there will only be our "dictée des nombres" for quizzes this week, the kiddos will be getting their topics and lists for NEXT week's quizzes.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your FIVE days with your sweethearts next weekend!
