 Sorry about my lousy communication of late (other than field trips, I mean). I've had this stupid (pardon my strong language) cold for a month and a half!! And it's not getting better! Anyway, there's lots going on this month, so here is the newsletter/calendar thing. I sent them home on Friday, on dark green paper. I haven't sent home a missing work email in a while, and I won't before break. Report cards are coming digitally, though.  Permission slips for bowling have already gone home, but I haven't sent the ones for skating, yet.  I put the first week back in January on this calendar, too. I also included some half birthdays, since not everyone is lucky enough to have their birthday during the school year. I also put my son's birthday on the calendar, since it's a milestone.  So, I had a couple of really great questions come up today regarding sick kids. Here's what I can share for now... When should we keep our kids home? Well, here is the information from the SD68 stage-2 start-up plan , specifically page 9: And the note from the Medical Health Officer for the Central Region of Vancouver Island Health Authority with the new health check for kids that was sent to parents this week: Where can I get the work for my sick kid? Umm. Well. I'm hoping to get them connected to Google Classroom sometime in the next week or so, plus my website for certain things, and here on the blog for others. Really, a sick kid probably mostly just needs sleep and a book to read. Try to keep some books on hand in both English and French (Scholastic is a good source...) for those unexpected days home when they're almost well enough to go to school. I know that's not really very concrete for an answer, but it's what I've got at the moment. **Side note, all...

Welcome back to school! It's a bit of a different return this year, but I'm glad to see my students and to get this new ball rolling! Here's what you can expect from me regarding communication: The majority of  my variable information will be posted here, on my blog. Things like this welcome back to school letter, links to work we're doing in class, the English version of large projects we're working on, etc. I do use labels (or tags) for my blogs so that you can find stuff a little easier as the posts pile up. This platform is primarily for parents. Time sensitive information will be sent out by email, generally with a copy posted here. Usually I'll ask you to send a reply to acknowledge receipt: "got it", "vegetarian", "3 dogs and a cat" are the types of replies I'll be looking for. It just makes it easier for me to know who I need to contact further if necessary. Assignments on Google Classroom will be marked out of 3 for com...

Just a reminder that our Craft Fair will be Saturday, November 30th. Every year, our PAC puts together a gift basket raffle, and asks all families to please donate to the baskets. Although you may donate to any of the themed baskets, each division has been assigned to focus their donations on a particular basket. Our basket this year is the ARTS AND CRAFTS BASKET. (I can't imagine how I ended up with that one... ;) ) Donations are due by November 1st. Here are some ideas for items to donate: Colouring books (child or adult) Sketch books Crayons, pencil crayons, markers Paints and brushes How-to books (crochet, draw, knit, etc.) Gift certificate to an art class Michael's gift card Crafting supplies (pipe cleaners, felt, pompoms, etc.) You can also donate to the other baskets if you prefer: Christmas basket Kitchen basket Family/entertainment basket Outdoors basket Relaxation basket  You may also choose to get together with some other families to donat...

We knew them growing up as "parent-teacher interviews." I don't know about you, but they were always this big mystery to me. But the times, they are a-changin'. Please have your child available to join us for your conference. I think it is important that our meetings revolve around your child. They may have insight that neither of us do, and I know it's way easier for us to communicate about your child if we are hearing the exact same story. I may ask your child to step out for the final few minutes of a conference if there are questions or comments that may be sensitive for children. Of course, you may do the same. In the event that there is more to discuss, we can arrange to have another meeting. 15 minutes can go very quickly, and we don't always have the time to get to the meat of the issue.
